An Ode to a Roach
An Ode to a Roach marks the debut album of artist
Jeffrey Vincent Parise. Over two decades in the making,
An Ode to a Roach combines poetry and spoken word storytelling with hypnotic, experimental music to bring you what has been called “a listening experience”. Three of the five tracks were conceived as poems over two decades ago, when Parise was a young artist visualizing an ideal world, losing and finding his religion and learning the lessons of prophets through insects. These poems stuck with him throughout the years as mantras to live by. And now, over twenty years later, he still stands by them.
One fateful night in an old jazz club in Rome, Jason Manns encouraged Parise to perform the title track of the album while playing his djembe and being accompanied by Billy Moran on guitar. After which, Manns offered Parise a record deal with his Caroline Country Record Co.
Parise happily accepted and recruited the help of Billy Moran to produce and bring his creative sounds on guitar. As well as Evan Laflamme, who’s unmistakable saxophone, clarinet and bass clarinet bring a soothing and haunting presence to every track.
In a time where the robots are coming for the very elements that make us human, making a poetry album on vinyl is an act of rebellion, and by purchasing An Ode to a Roach, you are joining the cause!
We encourage you to sit back with a set of headphones and a record player and listen to the album in its entirety.
*Museum quality collectors edition prints of the cover art painted by Parise are also available for an extra cost. Each print is hand embellished, hand numbered and signed by Parise, making each one an original work of art.
